We had tried everything with Ethan and we didn’t know if we could face another day, states Jenny, mother of Ethan, who was referred to Tuesday’s Child by both pediatricians and other health care practitioners. Our family was really suffering, she notes. Ethan had significant behavioral problems and several unsuccessful preschool experiences when the family began the Tuesday's Child program. From the first day, we felt we were in the right place, Jenny remarks. Here they learned practical child rearing techniques and found non judgmental acceptance and suggestions from clinical staff and other parents through group support and family goal plans. We felt an overwhelming sense that people understood and wanted to help. In the Child Center, the teachers used the techniques the parents were learning and Ethan blossomed. With the work we’ve done and what Tuesday’s Child has done, people can’t believe he’s the same kid. Other children never wanted to play with him before. Now he has friends!

The biggest thing I’ve learned is that every child has positive qualities, notes Miriam. Miriam sought help from Tuesday’s Child for her 15 month old son Elias’ aggressive, defiant behavior, which was both frustrating and made any type of child care arrangement almost impossible. From the start, Miriam noticed the supportive atmosphere of the training program: The parent room is like a community; it is very nurturing and loving and welcoming. Here she learned to become a better observer of both Elias’ and her own behaviors, and how to offer Elias options and choices to foster both independence and self-control. I learned what his behavior was trying to tell me; positive discipline is truly an opportunity to teach. Elias is now 3 years old and is no longer the aggressor with other children. He has learned to make transitions and has adjusted quite well to his new baby sister. Tuesday’s Child has changed my life and our family's relationships. Tuesday’s Child is a place where children learn good habits!
