Tuesday's Child is a family-centered program that
emphasizes the relationships between parent and child.
Children are enrolled in our inclusion classroom while parents receive support,
training, and ongoing individualized feedback on issues
pertaining to their children’s development and
behavior. Tuesday’s Child has programs appropriate for
children from approximately 12 months (“walking age”)
through age 6.
Parents and their children attend Tuesday’s Child once a week in the morning from 9:30 a.m. to noon, or in the afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Parent Education
Program
Tuesday's
Child's parent training model provides each new family with
a peer mentor (a parent who has completed the weekday parent
training program), to facilitate our 12-week curriculum.
Each week, new information is introduced and specific
behavioral concerns of the new family are discussed with the
mentor. Using our positive behavioral management
techniques, individualized goal plans are developed solving
problems such as:
-
following directions on the first request,
-
taking "no" for an answer, and
-
following simply routines like bedtime, mealtimes and
getting dressed in the morning.
In our
weekday program, during the last hour of the 2 1/2 hour
session, a clinical psychologist leads a group discussion
focusing on topics such as child development and realistic
expectations.
Saturday
parenting programs are available for parents who are unable
to attend during the week. This streamlined 8-week
program uses a classroom model and is taught by our clinical
psychologist.
The Child Center
The Child Center compliments the Tuesday’s Child parent
education programs by using the same developmentally
appropriate, behavior management strategies taught to
parents. Emphasis is placed on cooperating with the
teacher, interactive games with peers, and play. Program
fees are based on a sliding scale. The four areas of
concentration emphasized and observed in the Child
Center are:
·
Socialization (ability to interact appropriately with
others)
·
Time on
Task (ability to focus and concentrate)
·
Participation (ability to cope with a variety of situations)
·
Compliance
(ability to recognize limits and follow directions)
Early Intervention
