Child Behavior Internship Opportunities in Chicago

Undergraduate and Graduate Internships

Tuesday’s Child offers year-round internship opportunities, including full academic year, fall/spring semesters, and summer, on a full-time or part-time basis.

We partner with schools nationwide and are always interested in expanding these relationships. While we offer school credit for internships, financial compensation is not provided.

Our location at 3633 N. California Avenue, Chicago, IL 60618, is easily accessible via CTA, with free parking available in our lot and on the street.

  • Interns at Tuesday’s Child will work with supervisors, classroom teachers, and clinical staff to learn child behavioral intervention, therapeutic strategies, and developmental screening. Reporting to the Children’s Program Supervisor, they will receive 1:1 supervision and gain experience in Applied Behavior Analysis and child development.

Undergraduate internships are ideal for those pursuing degrees in psychology, social services, child development, early childhood education, special education, child life, clinical psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, or related fields. During the school year, interns participate in Saturday behavior intervention groups and additional programming 1-2 days a week. Summer interns work 4 days per week mid-June to mid-August.

  • Tuesday’s Child serves as a field site for graduate degrees in:

    • Masters in Early Childhood Education and/or Special Education

Graduate interns receive weekly reflective supervision with our clinical team. They will lead groups and interventions, design social-emotional programs, create individualized goal plans, and develop rapport with parents. Training includes intakes, developmental screenings, educational advocacy, and referrals.

  • “Child development and behavioral intervention were not topics that I was clinically familiar with prior to starting this internship. As time has gone on, and with immense support from the entire TC staff, I feel confident in my abilities in my placement. I am thankful for the suggestions and feedback I have received. I feel that I can ask questions and receive extremely thoughtful responses from all the staff. I have slowly started to feel that I am picking up a clinical lens and starting to notice patterns and behaviors I was not aware of before.”

  • “Be confident! It’s okay to be overwhelmed when you start because it is definitely something new! But don’t worry, you will learn so much and the teachers are always there to support you when you need it. This has honestly been such a great internship and I feel as though I’ve learned so much from it! I honestly have had a great time here and all the teachers are so supportive and kind.”

  • “My favorite part of the internship was being able to work with the children and see their change throughout the weeks. Being in the parent room was also one of my favorite parts because it gave me a lot of perspective on the tools that the parents were implementing at home and what it was like for them. I also really liked that there was a supervision part of the internship because during the day we’re all so busy with the kids that we can’t always ask questions and it allowed me to learn how I could improve myself.”
